ChatGPT and Google Sheets: Catch Every Idea From Your Phone
How to connect ChatGPT to Google Sheets so you can tell it an idea from your phone and it adds the idea to a running list, ready for when it's time to plan or create content.
The short answer
Create a Google Sheet, connect Google Drive inside ChatGPT, then tell ChatGPT your idea and ask it to add it to that sheet. Do it from your phone the moment the idea shows up. When it's time to plan or create content, you start from your own list instead of a blank page.

Have you ever had a great idea for a post, sat down later to write it, and couldn't remember it?
That happens to me all the time. So I built a system to fix it.
I tell ChatGPT on my phone that I have an idea, and it adds it to a spreadsheet.
What I hear most from business owners is "I never know what to post", or "I run out of ideas after the first week." But the ideas are always coming. They just show up in the car, halfway through a job, or right before you fall asleep.

Key takeaways
- 01
ChatGPT can add your ideas straight into a Google Sheet. Connect Google Drive in ChatGPT, then tell it the idea and which sheet to add it to.
- 02
The sheet is your record, not the chats. The chats will pile up, and you can archive or delete them without losing a single idea.
- 03
I used ChatGPT for this, not Claude. When I recorded this, Claude could connect to my Google Drive and spreadsheets but couldn't add a row, so it didn't work for this job.

2:50How to set up your idea catcher
Create a Google Sheet and name it
Make a new Google Sheet and give it a name you'll recognize. This is where every idea will land.
Connect Google Drive in ChatGPT
In ChatGPT, connect your Google Drive.
You'll have to choose which Google account to use if you have more than one, and accept the permissions.
Tell it your first idea
Start a new chat and say something like: "Here's an idea, add it to this sheet."
ChatGPT goes and finds the sheet and adds it.
Move it into a project
Once I had it working, I realized it wasn't very organized, so I moved it into a project and added the sheet link to the project notes.
Now I can keep going in the same chat, or start a new idea inside the project, and it all stays contained.
Clear out the chats when you want to
The little chats do start to pile up. That's fine, because the sheet is your record of ideas.
If you want to tidy up, you can archive the chats, which hides them, or delete them completely.
Questions people actually ask
Can ChatGPT add rows to Google Sheets?+
Yes. Once Google Drive is connected in ChatGPT, you can tell it your idea and ask it to add it to your sheet, and it finds the sheet and adds it.
Can I do this from my phone?+
Yes, that's the whole point. I tell ChatGPT the idea on my phone the moment I think of it.
Can Claude do the same thing?+
Not when I recorded this. Claude could connect to my Google Drive and my spreadsheets, but it couldn't add a row, so it didn't work for what I wanted.
What kind of ideas should go on the list?+
I use it for content ideas, and for business ideas I don't have time to explore yet. Then when I do have time, I go back to my list and pick one up.
